Belly Charms for a Good Cause!

I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you about a story that really touched my heart recently.

After speaking with Sonya from Belly Charms, I came to learn about her beautiful jewelry collection called Affirmation and Inspiration-Sandi's Fight.

All of the proceeds from this line go directly to her sister, Sandi, and her family to benefit Sandi's Fight For Life.

Here's a little bit of Sandi's story:

In 1995, as a college freshman, Sandi was involved in an automotive accident which left her with a Traumatic Brain Injury. After spending 2 long weeks in a coma, she made a remarkable recovery with the help of nearly a year of intense therapy and rehabilitation to teach her how to do the basics all over again. Following her accident, Sandi went on to graduate college with honors.

Jumping to 2010,

Sandi is 33 years old and happily married to her husband, JJ, for a little over 3 years. She now has a Master's Degree in professional counseling and works as a mental health counselor with at risk teens and their families. In late April, Sandi begins to experience sharp pains in her head accompanied by unusual "whooshing" sounds. On April 30th, after driving home from work, Sandi got out of her car and quickly realized her left leg was barely functioning. She immediately knew something was wrong, and contacted her physician.

Her physician ordered a CT scan which would reveal a lemon-sized tumor in Sandi's brain. On May 6, 2010, Sandi underwent surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible. The surgeon informed the family later that afternoon that the tumor appeared malignant and he would be sending it to a leading hospital for confirmation.

After 2 painstakingly long weeks, the results of the tumor were in, and the first words out of the doctor's mouth were directed towards Sandi, "You are now fighting for your life." The tumor was malignant, and the battle had just begun.

Currently, according to Sandi's blog, the doctors are optimistic about her prognosis which is a blessing in itself. She undergoes multiple radiation sessions weekly, and the financial burden is enormous. Despite having health insurance, she is no longer able to work and the co-pays themselves add up quickly!

Her sister, Sonya, in an effort to help with the financial aspects, began offering the Affirmation and Inspiration line in her online jewelry boutique, Belly Charms. This line is filled with absolutely beautiful pieces including bracelets, necklaces, and silicone wristbands. The sheer idea that they will help relieve some of Sandi's financial burdens in this stressful time makes them beautiful on an entirely different level. I encourage you to consider adding a piece from Sonya's line to your accessories, giving them as gifts for friends, or simply sending a donation. Anything helps, and each and every thought, prayer, and donation are appreciated beyond belief.
